2019 Multiliteracy Symposium: Celebrating the Diverse Linguistic and Cultural Assets of All Our Students
The 2019 Multiliteracy Symposium was hosted by the Office of English Language Acquisition (OELA) on Monday, May 6, 2019 at the U.S. Department of Education. OELA explored this important topic with national leaders in research, practice, and policy who shared their perspectives on why developing language and literacy skills in English plus other languages is critical in today’s learning environment. The agenda included sessions on quality schooling for English Language Learners (ELLs), the positive impact of multiliteracy, community/school partnerships for bilingual programs, educational systems and practices, and information about the seal of biliteracy. Featured speakers included leaders from federal agencies, Congress, educators, parents and students.
