Aída Walqui, the Director of Teacher Development at WestEd will present “Effective Professional Development for Teachers of English Language Learners (ELLs).”  She will begin with an overview of professional development in general, and how this relates to the needs of teachers of ELL students.  The focus will be the QTEL project, a major element of Professional Development within WestEd that incorporates the concepts of the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) and Social-cultural Learning Theory into its five core principles.  Dr. Walqui will provide examples and ideas on providing coherent and holistic professional development to teachers of ELLs as well as disciplinary teachers.
