Dr. Linda Griffin and Dr. Theresa Deussen from Education Northwest will provide information, resources, and a professional development model that helps teachers incorporate research-based instructional strategies for ELL students into the mathematics classroom. Dr. Deussen will present research-based principles identified in Education Northwest’s publication: What Teachers Should Know About Instruction For English Language Learners. Dr. Griffin will present findings from research about the characteristics of professional development that have a positive effect on teaching and learning and will provide an example of one such professional development model that uses classroom video footage to focus teachers’ attention on the particular needs of ELL students in the mathematics classroom.
